In women, a fungus called as Candida albicans is the main cause of yeast infection. Candida albicans is a single celled fungus of yeast that naturally exists in the body of human. Our body has both good and bad bacteria. Good bacteria keep a check on the population of this fungus. But, if the good bacteria are killed, Candida albicans multiplies and grows numerously. One of the primary yeast infection causes is the antibiotics usage. The antibiotics disturb the natural pH balance of our body resulting in the overgrowth of yeast fungus, Candida albicans and this leads to yeast infection.

Women consuming birth control pills also suffer from yeast infection. Birth control pills also results in disturbance of natural pH balance of body same as the antibiotics does. So, birth control pills consumption also results in yeast infection. Though yeast infection is more common in women, males can also get yeast infection if they have sexual intercourse with the women suffering from the yeast infection. And this infection may also transmit between partners if not treated on time. So, there are various causes that lead to yeast infection that have been found till today. Many of them are still under discovery.
